University of Nottingham Students’ Union

The University of Nottingham Students’ Union (UoNSU) is a diverse community of over 33,000 students from every corner of the world. At the heart of student life, the Union is a place to share, offer support and inspire – helping to make student life the very best it can be by creating an inclusive community that makes Nottingham a home away from home.

A warm welcome

We were appointed to create a bold new identity for UoNSU which would welcome and communicate clearly with students. Our concepts were thoroughly tested through focus groups and surveys, with a high percentage of the University’s student population voicing their opinions on the final design route.

An inspiring image

The project’s aim was to help students understand the role of the Union within university life, while also seeking to create a sense of belonging across individuals and groups. Our identity incorporated a stylised ‘U’ and ‘N’, which formed the top and bottom of a frame with the students in the middle. Bright colours were chosen to engage and inspire, creating a fresh and vibrant brand with broad student appeal.

Rooted in inclusivity

Our unique identity embraced the diverse student community, with creative versatility applied to marketing materials, screen animations, digital comms, signage, environmental graphics and brochures. The identity and subsequent campaigns have performed so well that many years later, they continue to be applied right across the University’s digital and physical real estate.

They truly understood our values, which resulted in the production of a creative suite of marketing materials that work well across all platforms, along with what we think are award-worthy online brand guidelines!
